- About me
-
Growing up, never in a million years would I have predicted that I’d be a senior instructor, 4th degree black belt, 15 year practitioner in kenpo karate and most recently a studio owner, but here I am.
I began my training 15 years ago with Professor Lee Wedlake in Fort Myers, Florida. As soon as I began my training the entire system intrigued me. I liked learning to move, I loved learning why it worked. A mechanic by trade (have been for 24+ years) knowing how wasn’t enough, I wanted to know why. Moving up through the ranks began instructing when I was a purple belt. Traveled internationally to attend seminars. When I was a 1st degree brown belt traveled to England to compete in the European Internationals. I not only successfully competed, I did what few other kenpoists can say. I competed in, and won, both my forms and sparring divisions. Something I’m very proud of. This, in and of itself, was quite an accomplishment but it got better. Upon winning both, my instructor Mr. Lee Wedlake, my mentor, promoted me to 1st degree black belt there at the Internationals. I was kicked up to black by some of our system’s most respected practitioners,
Mr. Lee Wedlake, Mr. Jeff Speakman, Mr. Gary Ellis, Mr. Huk Planas and Mr. Ed Downey.
I became Mr. Wedlake’s lead instructor for the next seven years which laid the groundwork for my desire to own my own kenpo studio. My wife Renée (1st black) and I own Gulf Coast Kenpo Karate in Cape Coral, Florida. My journey has taken me around the world, taught me (and continues to teach me) SGM Ed Parker’s American Kenpo and all it’s gifts both physically and mentally. Kenpo has enriched my life both personally and professionally and I am forever grateful for the path that has unfolded and for the people it has befriended me. - Birthday

Hey Mike - Jamie had the baby this morning at 10:38. 7 lbs 11 oz 20.5 inches. No name yet. Both little boy and mom are doing well.
We should have Connor in there Wednesday and both on Friday. They are anxious for test week. :)
